MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMY

why

Ascension's Middle School Academy is dedicated to providing a unique program focused on Christ-centered values, academic excellence, and deep character development.

Our THRIVE CURRICULUM and Academy model are designed to help students become the best version of themselves through focused study on LEADERSHIP, SERVICE, and INNOVATION. We strive to meet the individual needs of each student and provide them with the tools they need to excel academically and flourish emotionally, socially and spiritually.

 ACADEMY HIGHTLIGHTS

While we strive to develop young leaders of character who will navigate the challenges of middle school and beyond with faith, honor, and a strong sense of their own worth. We are also committed to academic excellence with an emphasis on learning that is:

Cross-curricular: Field trips and projects will lead to learning in multiple disciplines as real-world issues stimulate the need for students to gain knowledge in specific fields of inquiry.

Project-based: Students will be given an objective or a problem to solve and then they will need to seek the tools, team, and resources to complete the project.

Academically rigorous, engaging, and fun: As students learn from community leaders and intriguing field trips, they will be challenged to document what they’ve learned with excellence and with an eye toward becoming a great thinker, writer, and life-long learner. Students will have the opportunity to hold offices of president, vice president, secretary, or treasurer on Student Council.

Ascension’s Middle School 6th, 7th and 8th Grade Academies are directed at developing Christlike character in our students. It is our belief that character and academic development are both necessary in developing stellar human beings. Our Academy provides an exemplary environment in which our students learn how to thrive as they learn whom God has created them to be.

Our gifted teachers consistently stretch our students to grow in their writing, critical thinking, reading, and oration skills. Comparative novel studies are utilized along with the best components of several leading curricula, including Shirley and Fountas and Pinnell. Cross curricular lessons are emphasized across the humanities, with a specific focus on character formation through highly interactive and challenging academics. Treasured traditions like the school-wide spelling bee and speech meet help to ensure that our Academy students set an example of academic excellence for our younger students and provide leadership and mentoring opportunities for students in our upper grades.

All of our students receive instruction in the following disciplines:

Our goal with the Academies is to intentionally form Christlike character into our students so that they have a firm foundation as they venture into any of our local high schools.
