TO THIRD GRADE
Welcome
Welcome to third grade! I am very excited to have your child in my class this year. Throughout the year I hope to get to know each of you as I get to know your students. To help get us acquainted I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I was born and raised in Ventura, California (with the exception of 5 years when my dad was a pastor in Ohio). I attended California Lutheran University where I received my B.A. in English, and then California State University, Northridge where I received my M.A. in Composition and Rhetoric. This is my fourth year as an Ascension teacher, and my third year teaching third grade! I am so excited to work alongside you this year to provide your child with a quality education!

CLASSROOM EXPECTATIONS
Students will be:
Respectful
On task
Always safe
Responsible
BEHAVIOR MANAGEMENT
There will always be space for grace in my classroom, however, if issues arise this is my classroom behavior plan:
-
The student will be asked to redirect which includes a visual aide that reminds the student to make a better choice.
-
A deduction of $1 in “Saunders Cash” (a proven motivator that will be explained during Back to School Night) will be taken for every misbehavior.
-
If there is a need for a third reminder, a letter will be sent home that must be signed and returned the following school day.
HOMEWORK
Homework is assigned on Mondays as a packet and due Friday morning. Homework is graded out of a possible 10 points.
During the week families should expect:
-
4 Go Math Standard Practice sheets
-
3-4 English Language Arts related tasks
-
An optional reading log
AGENDAS AND HOMEWORK FOLDERS
Students are required to bring their homework folder and agenda from school to home and back again every day.
Math: Given daily and should be returned the following day.
Spelling: Students are expected to complete 3 activities on the Tic-Tac-Toe sheet. In addition, students should be actively practicing their spelling words daily. This will be turned in on Friday.
Reading Logs: Students should aim to read 20 minutes a night. They are excepted to fill out their reading log at least 4 times during the week. Reading logs are due Monday to give students time to catch up, as needed.
Library: Library books are due every other Wednesday. This insures that the librarian is able to check books in before we arrive.
