TO SECOND GRADE

Welcome

ABabich

My name is Ashley Babich, and I’m so excited to be your second grade teacher this year! This will be my 5th year teaching at Ascension, and I truly feel blessed to be part of such a wonderful school community. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies from CSU Channel Islands and went on to receive my Master’s in Education in 2020. Shortly after, I stepped into the classroom and I haven’t looked back since!

Outside of school, I’ve been happily married to my husband, Jake, for 6 years. We have two amazing kids. Our daughter, Amelia, who is three, and our son, Oliver, who just turned one. We also have two sweet dogs, Theo and Kenzie. As a family, we love spending time together and going on fun adventures whether it be at an escape room or going to the beach.

I can’t wait to meet you and begin this exciting journey together. It’s going to be a great year full of learning, laughter, and growth!

Classroom Expectations and Management

In our classroom, we work hard, treat others with kindness, and always try our best. Students are expected to stay on task, be respectful, and take responsibility for their work. We believe in learning from our mistakes, and there’s always room for grace.

If an issue does come up:

1. students will first be given a gentle reminder with a visual aid that reminds the student to make a better choice.

2. If the behavior continues, they’ll be asked to turn in one of their mini erasers (Our classroom currency that will be explained more during Back to School Night).

3. If there is a need for a third reminder a note will be sent home that must be signed and returned the next school day. Our goal is always to help students learn, grow, and make great choices!

Homework

Homework will be sent home at the start of each week in a packet and due Friday Morning. Students are required to bring their homework folder from school to home and back again every day.

Math: Given daily and should be returned the following day.

Spelling: There is a spelling menu given at the start of each month. Students are expected to complete 2 activities on their spelling menu each week. In addition, students should be actively practicing their spelling words daily. This will be turned in on Friday.

English Language Arts: There will typically be 2 tasks each week related to the skills that the students are focusing on during that given week.
