Welcome from the Principal

Welcome to Ascension Lutheran School!  ALS is a mission of Ascension Lutheran Church in Thousand Oaks, CA, uniquely serving infants through 8th graders.  Members of Ascension Church had a vision more than 50 years ago to open a school of academic excellence in a caring Christian community.  This year we celebrate our fiftieth anniversary and look forward to continuing to serve Ventura County and Southern California for another 50 years!

Ascension Lutheran School is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. We have incredibly gifted teachers and staff including credentialed teachers as well as many teachers who have masters or doctorate degrees.  We believe in nurturing the whole child and thus have rigorous academics in core subjects to nurture the mind, a strong physical education and sports program to nurture the body, and religious education classes and weekly chapel to nurture the spirit.  We use the latest technology, including each 8th grader having their own iPad, yet we also help our students stay grounded in the earth through our organic teaching garden.  We encourage our students to serve and make a difference in our local community while also providing our students multiple ways to connect with the global world.  We are also unique on that all students take Spanish beginning when they are in kindergarten.  This strong foundation has  given our students the skills  to excel academically and in leadership roles when they transition on to high school and college.

Our vision for each child is that as they leave us they are equipped to be compassionate thoughtful leaders, walking humbly with their God, loving kindness and advocating for justice. Each age group of children within our infant through 8th grade school has their own unique vision statement that ultimately fits into this overarching vision and desire for each child.

I invite you to explore our website and call for an appointment to tour our campus, so that you get a genuine feel for how that vision comes to life. You will see passionate teachers that believe in and practice with intentionality the three "Rs" of relevancy, rigor and strong relationships. You will see children growing in their confidence and competence with a love for learning and serving.

In His Love and Service,
Ascension Welcomes Principal Patti Pape
